Inspiration! Garance Dore

Garance Dore

I am totally obsessedw with my latest discovery- the beautiful work of Garance Dore. Dore is a French illustrator, who blogs about fashion and style. Her work is exquisite. I absolutely adore French style and it influences both my work and the way I dress. I always read fashion magazines, which are full of inspiration, but which I rarely use in my work and I always return to faithful clothes which I know work for me. I wear a lot of stripes, always a limited palette in terms of colour and texture, plain silver jewellery, and generally ballet pumps. I like to experiment with things like nail or lip colour, and i love bags and scarves. It sounds boring but i find that this measured, logical, methodical approach works to create clean lines and a tasteful image, which I always wish to express in my work, too. I find that French style is akin to this method, and that is why I am heavily influenced by artists such as Dore.

Dore's quality of line is stunning and her use of clean white space to balance imagery is stunning. I am working on The Elves and the Shoemaker for one of my negotiated briefs, and intend to use fashion illustration to influence my image-making for this project.
