COMMISSION- Alice in Wonderland Library Event.

Alongside my degree, I work at Chester Library and have previously been involved with events organised both at Chester and other branch libraries I  have been commissioned by a contact at Northwich library to produce some promotional material for an event which they will be hosting to promote both Alice in Wonderland and the library service.

This is the brief I was sent:

FRIENDS of NORTHWICH LIBRARY...Alice in Wonderland Tea Party.

Our group, Friends of Northwich Library on Brunner Court, (outside the library). Our aim is attract people to this end of town and thereby get them to see where the library is and may be to cross the threshold if they haven't done so before!

At the same time we hope to generate interest in the general public for the Brunner court area which we feel is far more ignored than the lower part of town. To create an atmosphere and encourage people to walk that little bit further up the street we hope to have live music and other gentle entertainment.

The event will run on a Saturday, ideally between 10am and 1pm, date to be confirmed.

There will be teas and light refreshments in the Library in order for the group to raise funds.

There will be face painting and maybe a local author. We will have contacted the Northwich Guardian and raised as much local publicity as we can before the event.

We hope that local businesses may donate prizes for a quiz, and hence we will publicise the businesses involved.

We are hoping to really go to town with the theme of the day and all intend to wear fancy dress!

We are looking for an illustrator to produce some illustrations for use in promotional materials such as leaflets/flyers, on posters which we will display in the library, and to decorate the exterior of the library on the day itself. We are looking for simple images, but they would need to be quite decorative in style. We were thinking of maybe a teacup and teapot, a pocket watch and some bunting. The images can be produced as simple one-off illustrations, and we will then manipulate them for use on the leaflets etc. We may enlarge the images for use as decorations.

Evaluation:
This brief is so lovely!! I am really passionate about libraries and about promoting them and encouraging people to use them, so am delighted to have been asked to undertake this commission. I am going to do some research into Alice in Wonderland (which I'll post on here), to inform my ideas. Will post the final outcome on here, as well as the work in its finished state (in leaflet form etc).
