PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE: School workshop 23/05/2011

At: St Mary's Primary School Overton on Dee
On: Monday, May 23rd 2011. 1-3.15pm.

As part of my professional practice module I am conducting an illustration-based workshop in  St Mary's Primary School (Overton on Dee) on Monday 23rd May. Myself and three others will be talking to the children about our work, about the way different illustrators produce their work, and will be giving them the opportunity to produce some work of their own. The theme we have to work around is water, so we need to talk to the children about how water can be painted, drawn etc, we will show them some books featuring water, and will then (hopefully) have them all work on some water-themed artistic projects.
This is a really challenging task....between us we have very limited experience of working with children, and have all been so busy finishing work for our final show that Monday is creeping up on us...! I am, however, enthusiastic about it and feel it will be both beneficial for us as a team, and hopefully fun and inspiring for the children. The primary school I attended myself as a child was very creative and artistic in approach, and I really feel that my time there shaped me as a creative person. As such, I'd really like to make the session memorable for the children, and hope they will really engage with it. However......the children range in age between 3 and 7 years old....! This obviously presents quite a challenge for us as a team, in that we need to be able to enage all the children and to ensure that our presentation/the tasks we suggest for them are suitable for all ages.
I intend to put together a sample lesson plan which I will post on here, which will provide us with some structure for the afternoon.
