Wrexham Council Brief- Notes from Flat Pack Meeting

We decided on the theme of 'Flat Pack', to use with this brief. The council are looking to develop their literature in terms of promoting recycling...here's the minutes from one of our early meetings...
Notes from Flat Pack Meeting 13th January 2011

Branding

The first key thing for us to finalise is an overall ‘Flat Pack’ brand that will work across box, booklets, signage etc. Once this is established, the design of everything should fall into place quite quickly. Adam suggested presenting this on three A3 sheets. The first sheet will demonstrate the brand itself and the others will show the development of this across all elements of the project.

Costing

We need to obtain at least one price (preferably two) for the sustainable version of everything that is in the presentation. This will include some or all of:

Embossed and/or Printed boxes – price for 1000 and 4000

A5 8-page booklets – price for 1000 and 4000 (also to be used as downloadable PDF) This should include, for example, information about re-use organisations and recycling centres – Clair to try and provide more details on what the booklet should contain, but place-holder text will do for now.

“Slider” to show which rubbish goes in which bin – price for 1000 and 4000

Bin Stickers – roughly A4 size (possibly die-cut?) – price for 250 and 1000 (these must match national colours for each type of waste, but images can be changed to aid clarity)

Painted symbols on ground to show which bin should be placed where – use a stencil? (Welsh Assembly really liked this idea)

Stair and floor vinyl – not urgent, but for possible future use

Wrexham Council would like to order as much as possible by the end of March (before the end of the financial year).

Student Building

We visited the new student flats (directly behind the football ground), which are to be used as a showcase for the project. There is lots of potential for producing something special here as it is very visible (the top floors from all over Wrexham, all of it from the railway). It may be possible to generate a lot of publicity, certainly within local news, potentially within national recycling magazines, television and inviting members of the Welsh Assembly. The building is also on this year’s Wrexham In Bloom route, so may remain in place for some time and effectively kill two birds with one stone for the Council.

Timeline

Clair will provide a timetable for the whole project, showing when canvassing of residents is to be carried out, when each element will be released etc. Door knocking will take place in February (which we can attend if desired), should know which variety of bins and bags are required by mid February.
